While Derek was down in Prescott today for a tennis match, Ashton and I spent the day together cooking. He received a sushi kit from Grandma Dixie for his birthday. So we went to the store to purchase ingredients to make onigiri, Japanese rice balls. We spent the afternoon crafting them (well Ash did most of the work and I took pictures) and then we made heart-shaped, anise-flavored sugar cookies. Grandma Dixie stopped by for a visit and got to sample these treats too!
Ashton rinses the short-grain rice before cooking it
Ash mixes up the rice sauce which helps make it sticky.Prepping the seaweed coating.
Prepping the cooked rice and molding it into its discuss triangular shape.
Crafting the onigiri with the sticky rice and spiced tuna.
The final product!
Yum! Dixie
