May 30: Sunny Ketchikan!

May 30, 2022 Happy Memorial Day!

Well it is now official! The four of us can check off Alaska from our bucket list!

We arrived in Ketchikan around 8am this morning. The views were gorgeous!

Coast guard station!

It was fun watching the ship crew throw the lines to the folk on the dock. Great applause from the ship for a fantastic toss!  Our cabin near the starboard aft of the ship has been perfect for many reason - and watching the docking process today was one of them. The locals were apologizing profusely for the horrible sunny weather!

We got off the ship and took a bit to get our bearings. Ketchikan is very touristy - lots of eateries and shops. And also lots of fun indigenous artwork.

We hopped on the local city bus and traveled to Totem Bight where many totems and a log house were featured. We saw three bald eagles perched on top of various buildings overlooking the water during our bus ride. We also had fun tide pooling a bit (morning low tide) and saw some fish and crabs. The real treat was seeing a California Condor fly overhead. Wow! What a huge wingspan!

Weird rainforest trees- looks like something out of a Tolkien novel!!

Ashton was our tour guide reading notes for the walking tour.

This pole was my favorite. I love the foot prints and the bear peeking over from the top.
