Doing Figure Eights Around Bryce Canyon

This afternoon we hiked what is known as the “Figure 8” combination including the Queen’s Garden, Navajo/WallStreet, and Peekaboo Trails for a six mile ultimate hike into the Bryce Amphitheater. It was great despite periodic cold wind and many icy and/or slushy spots. Thank goodness for hiking poles! The hike had a total of 1500 ft in elevation gain. I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves!

Here we go descending from Sunrise Point onto the Queen’s Garden Trail.

Heading on to Navajo Trail towards the Peekaboo trail
Junction.

Ashton went on a scavenger hunt to find as many “hike the hoodoos” plaques as possible during our adventures. You get a prize if you can show selfies with at least three of them (there are a total of 9 of them in various parts of the park). Ashton found four of them along our hiked with one more to be found on our hike tomorrow!

Ascending on the Peekaboo 3 mile Loop. When the sun came out while hiking uphill, it actually got pretty warm!

Do you see Ash in his red coat below?

The switchbacks up were tough but the views were such a reward!

Can you see the “window” in the picture below?

Wall of Windows!

Switchbacks!!

Back on Navajo Trail heading up WallStreet.

Full-sized trees in the middle of the hoodoos and canyons.

So many switchbacks!!

This may be my favorite picture from the hike.

I am very orange.

Derek and Ash need to shrink!

After our hike we went to “The Pizza Place” for dinner in Tropic. Ummm it was so horrible that Ashton needed to lick his plate to keep from starving. Ha ha! (Just kidding! Our pepperoni and jalapeño pizza hit the post-hiking spot!)
