Sunset and Sunrise: Grand Canyon North Rim Style!

After all of our hiking explorations on the east side of the park, we drove over to the lodge area to check in to our cabin. We had a rim-side cabin which gave us a partial view of the canyon through the pines. Three mule deer appeared just outside our cabin while we were enjoying a picnic dinner. They were dining on leaves while we were enjoying PB&J!

Below the boys are watching the deer in the green clearing just beyond the path.

After eating, we did the short hike out to Bright Angel Point and other vistas around the lodge to enjoy sunset. It began to rain in the canyon and we were treated to a beautiful rainbow. (We even got rained on a bit ourselves!) The colors on the clouds as the sun set were fabulous!

After official sunset, we went an had ice cream!!!

This morning, Derek snd I got up at 4:30am to walk to Bright Angel Point to view sunrise. More great canyon sites!! Below the moon looms over the canyon in twilight.

Canyon shadow selfie!!!

I love how the tops of all of the mesas are lit up!

Here is a view across the canyon of the trail that we took into the canyon last December on the south rim. Yup we hiked that “skinny” escarpment down!
