MillerTime: A hike down into the canyon on the North Kaibab Trail!

We hiked down into the canyon 2.5 miles and 2200 ft to Redwall Bridge and back on the North Kaibab Trail! What great views and what a workout!!

The trail was a very different feel the entire way from the descent that we made via the South Rim last December. This part of the trail is steeper and much less exposed. There were no sheer drop-offs during the first half of our hike. We were descending with the trees all around us. So green! The trail itself was very sandy at times which was a bummer. Hiking poles definitely helped, especially on the climb back up!

Can you spot the boys at the overlook below? Hint- they are next to the leaning tree. They were much speedier than Derek and I on the descent, so I was able to get the pic from an upper switchback.

We were passed 4 times by mule trains- twice on the descent snd twice on the ascent!

After our long climb out, we found a nice picnic spot overlooking the canyon for lunch. Then we started the 4 hour drive home. What a great two days!!!

Some teenagers passed out during the drive home.
