Celebrating Chinese New Year, DeMiguel Style!

Ashton’s entire elementary school celebrated Chinese New Year today sponsored by the school’s multicultural committee. There are many Chinese families at DeMiguel. Parents and grandparents from those families came in to the school today to teach the children about Chinese history and culture. All classes celebrated by making decorations culminating in a school-wide parade!  There were red balloons and streamers (red is a symbol of good luck) and lots of dragons to ward off evil spirits. If you ask, Ashton will tell you the story of how Chinese New Year traditions came to be!

The dragon is now hanging in our dining room to bring us good luck in the new year! 

While we were in Sedona today, Ashton spent the afternoon with Grandpa Cliff and Grandma Dixie since  he had his short day at school today. He had a great time building a fort with them in the woods. (Maybe pretending it was a tower fort on the Great Walk of China???) How fun!!!! 

Ashton also created a “binary code treasure map” in STEM class this week. Can you find the start and the oath leading to X marks the spot???
