Back to School!

It is hard to believe that we have a third grader and a PreK student in the house (and the fact that the summer is over already)!  Both boys were super-excited to go to school this morning.  Apparently Ash did well with his new routine, both with before and after school care as well as his new classroom.  Of course he has his big brother to keep and eye on him.  Ash had a great day exploring the housekeeping and block centers of his new classroom (new centers will open each day as they learn the rules for each).  His class also started the book "Lunch" where a mouse samples all sorts of food (we vaguely remember this from Zach's preK days).  Ash's class will sample new foods each day of this book unit along with the little mouse. Today was blueberry-sampling day.  Ash said that he liked the blueberries but not so much the blueberry muffins.  Derek told him that he really liked blueberry pancakes.  Ash replied, "Disgusting!"

Zach also had a good day in his third grade classroom.  He already came home with homework- reading for 20 minutes as well as 20 minute practice on multiplication.com.  We received tons of rain here in Bartlesville so Zach's recess was inside where he played Battleship with a new classroom friend.  (Ash's class got to play outside, missing the rain by about 15 minutes).  Zach taught his friend the game since that friend had never played the game before.  Zach also was shocked to learn that this boy is one of two kids in his class who does not have access to the internet at home.  Another opportunity to explain to Zach that everything costs money and not everyone has the same amount of money.

Both boys met the new music teacher today as apparently Music class is both boys' Monday "special" class. Both did the Chicken Dance as well as sang the song "Welcome to Our School".

Ok, I hear both boys hopping into the shower.  They need it after eating hearty helpings of spaghetti.  It was really nice to have dinner together and hear all about the boys' first day back.  Zach is almost done reading "Riki Tiki Tavi" and will be onto his second Pegasus adventure book.  He read all the way home yesterday, finishing the first book in the series, "The Flame of Olympus".  He did not ask to play the iPad once during both flights!  I better get to it as I have a few more chapters to go in the second book, "Olympus at War".  (Yes I am reading the books too.  They are really good!!!)

Derek and I had a good day.  With our new routine of dropping off the boys in the same place in the morning and then me dropping Derek off right at his building (this will happen when I am not working in Ponca or working late), Derek forgot his lunch in the car.  This gave me an excuse to drive back downtown and have a picnic lunch with him.  It was really nice to have 30 minutes together to enjoy one another and the great outside temps (and like Ashton, we narrowly avoided all of the rain).
