It's officially high school football season!

(But we really only care about the band!!!!)

Ashton and the Flagstaff Eagle Pride Marching Band performed at their first football game of the season this afternoon at the NAU Skydome.  It was exciting to see the first number in their "Incredibles" themed halftime show as well as their antics in the stands.

What was exceptionally cool was that members of the NAU marching band came to join the high schoolers in the stands during the second quarter.  What an amazing experience for our high school musicians to play side-by-side with the college kids!  (And special thanks to my Community Band director, Brent Levine -who is also the director of the NAU marching band- for loaning us his students this afternoon while they were on break from NAU band practice!).  

And of course we cannot forget the band groupies!!! (Extremally proud parents and grandparents!!!) 

In other news, Zach is doing well at ASU.  (We have gotten to talk to him via phone two evenings in a  row!  yay!) He, unsurprisingly, loves his calculus class and detests chemistry.  He has been getting along well with his suitemates.  They all went mini-golfing together last weekend as well as various trips to the rec center for swimming and working out.  On a scary note, the dorm next door to Zach's, which also houses engineering students, suffered a fire in one of the storage rooms displacing over 300 students.  Luckily no one was hurt and students are expected to return to their rooms early next week.  This happened while Zach was in class yesterday so he did not witness the evacuation.  He is fine.  His dorm is fine and was unaffected by the occurrence next door.  However, he said fire trucks and other service and cleanup vehicles were in the area most of the day which made it interesting getting to and from class as well as the cafeteria. We are looking forward to visiting Zach sometime during the long Labor Day weekend!
