Derek and I drove Zach to Prescott, AZ this morning to drop him off at ASU E2 Camp. This is a two-night, three-day camp for freshman engineering students starting at Arizona State in the fall. The university hosts multiple camps. Zach is attending the first one offered this summer before classes begin mid-August. Around 200 freshman will be in attendance at camp this weekend. The camp is taking place at a camp/resort called Emmanuel Pines. It reminds me of my church camp way back in the day. He will be staying each night in a cabin with other guys. Each day will be devoted to helping the new engineering students meet fellow students and engineering faculty with team-building and networking activities as well as develop skills that will help them succeed during their time at the university. We can’t wait to hear about Zach’s experience when we pick him up on Tuesday! (Derek and I wish that we had something like this when we were at Purdue!!!)
Here he is armed with his new groovy orange duffle bag- a graduation present from Aunt Jenny and Cousin Wynter. It easily fit all of his gear needed for camp including bedroll and pillow!
Zach received an E2 “swag bag” containing a tshirt for his second day of camp, a poncho (in the unlikely event of rain - haha), flashlight, and name tag and lanyard.
Most of the students were coming to camp by ASU bus from the campus in Tempe, AZ. Since we live north of Prescott in Flagstaff, it did not make sense for us to drive all the way south to Tempe only to have Zach board the bus and drive back north to Prescott. We received special permission to drop him off at camp. This was nice as we could see part of the camp (and give him a big smooch goodbye!). His check-in went very smoothly since we arrived well before the 156 students arriving by bus. We saw other students arriving via parent drop-off as Derek and I were leaving. We are sure Zach will have a blast!
