Last weekend, Ashton participated in the Northern Arizona Regional Honor Band in Kingman, AZ. He auditioned earlier in the year and was chosen as a member of the flute section. He and thirteen other members of the MEMS symphonic band traveled last Friday to Kingman to practice with band kids from other schools and then put on a performance on Saturday afternoon. Ashton had a great time staying at a hotel and playing in the pool during non-band practice times. As Derek, Grandma Dixie, and I were watching Zach play tennis in the state championship, Grandpa Randy and Grandma Peggy traveled to Kingman on Saturday to watch Ashton’s performance. Grandpa took movies of the performance so that we could all enjoy. Congratulations to Ashton and all the kids on an excellent job!!!! (Pictures of the program coming soon!)
This week Ashton went on a three-day overnight field trip with his 8th grade APEX class to Phoenix and Tucson. The kids participated in an escape room experience, went to the Planetarium and received a campus tour of the University of Arizona, went to a place with laser tag and go-carts, and all sorts of other adventures. He and fellow students arrived home last night. He was really happy to take a shower, eat home-cooked food, and sleep in his own bed (according to him, sleeping in a sleeping bag on a high school gym floor is not so fun). We are glad to have him home again! The house was too quiet!
Group picture at the University of Arizona. Can you spot Ashton?
Stay tuned for more about Ashton. He will be receiving an award next week! Yay Ashton!
