Zion Day 2, Part 1: A Rainbow of Fun!

We continued to enjoy Zion today, getting up at 5am AZ Time (6am UT time due to change to daylight savings time. Boo!) to hit the park trails before the crowds.

On the shuttle bus to the Emerald Pool Trailhead. This was a great hike viewing many waterfalls and pools- which were extra-spectacular due to rain the the recent snowmelt!

Crossing the Virgin River which made and continues to carve the canyon today!

It was lovely to have blue skies today and no rain.

Viewing the site across the canyon of a recent rockfall.

MORE MUD!!!!

Fording the Middle Emerald Pool to get to the Upper Emerald Pool Trail.

Heading up to Upper Emerald Pool. Side note: I received no less that three compliments on my Eddie Bauer fleece top during the hike today. I guess it is a keeper. Haha!

Upper Emerald Falls!

A rainbow at the falls in the morning sun. Gorgeous! The theme of this vacation seems to be rainbows. We have seen so many!

A “smoking” tree steaming in the morning sun.

Lower falls.

Do you see the rainbow in the lower falls?

Narrow slots during our hike.

Sweeping views towards the south of the canyon.

Weeping red rocks.

A view of the upper and lower falls together.

After all of that morning hiking, we enjoyed a picnic lunch mid-Canyon.
