Field Trip #2!

Dixie and I again accompanied Ashton and the Mount Elden Middle School Apex 7th and 8th graders on a field trip today. This second field trip was to Bushmaster Park for a day of team-building activities and a pizza lunch! Ashton said his favorite game was Hot Potato. Dixie snd I both liked Oh Captain, My Captain.

Ashton and team building marshmallow figures.

Ashton acting as “security guard” in the game of statues.

Dixie freezing as a statue. The goal of the game is to get close enough to the security guard to tap him/her on the back without being caught/seen moving.

Hot potato!

Ashton shouting instructions for Oh Captain, My Captain.

This is my middle school safety outfit! Sun, COVID, crossing-guard, and crazy middle school student-safe! Haha!

Now for a couple of hours to relax before heading to a two hour CPR/AED class hosted by the Flagstaff Athletic Club.

Meanwhile, Zach acted as a general for a mock Greek battle in his Military History class where the kids used mock shields and spears for battle. (Don’t worry, no one was hurt!) Zach was telling us that the shields that they carried, made of wood, were 16 pounds each. The student soldiers had to carry their shield in one arm and their spear (a noodle on a stick borrowed from the Flag High Pool) in the other. Zach shows off his sore arm above from lugging around the shield. They first “fought” on the football field until kicked off by the PE teacher (Zach’s tennis coach- boo hiss). Then they fought in a narrow hallway. Zach said it was interesting thinking about the strategy fighting in a wide versus a narrow area. They fought as a phalanx just as the Greeks did. Zach’s team unfortunately lost. He said that the other team cheated. Haha! Sounds like his class had a lot of fun and learned something too.
