Zach El Cocinero!!!!

El Cocinero means “chef” or “cook” in Spanish. For Zach’s Spanish class, he was asked to prepare a dish from a Spanish-speaking country at home and then write a report in Spanish, including pictures, describing the history and background of the dish and the recipe steps. Zach chose to make Sopapillas, which is a New Mexican recipe dating back over 200 years ago when New Mexico was still part of Mexico. Variations of the dessert can also be found in Chile, Peru, Argentina, Uruguay, and other South American regions. Our family fell in love with sopapillas during our many visits to, and living in, New Mexico. Sopapilla means “pillow” in Spanish. Sopapillas are truly pillows of delight for your taste buds!!!!

Getting the ingredients together.

Cutting in the vegetable shortening to make the dough.

Kneading the dough.

Everyone got into the act!

Powdered sugar and cinnamon for the finishing touches!

Don’t forget the honey!!!

Yum!!!!

I love cooking with my family!
