Zaadi was a three year old Navajo boy living here in Flagstaff in 2015. He was tragically killed by a distracted driver while walking in a crosswalk in front of the Best Buy here in town with his family. He loved superheroes. Travelers Insurance, who partners with the comic book industry in New York City to tell the unfinished stories of persons who have been killed by distracted drivers as part of their driving safety awareness campaign, learned of his story and brought him back to life as a superhero. According to his family, the comic book story captures his personality and honors his Navajo heritage. The Flagstaff AZ Daily Sun newspaper wrote an article recently about the publication of the comic and gave details on how to obtain one. Given that Zach is learning to drive, I thought that this would be a good learning opportunity for the entire family about the dangers and potentially tragic consequences of distracted driving. Travelers sent an entire “care package” for free including full comic, T-shirt, pin, tote bag, and sticker.
When you get into your car and prepare to drive, please think of Zaadi. Be like Z-Hawk. Be a hero and keep your mind and eyes on the road at all times.
Very cool.....and sad.
