Not much is new this week. I have been working on ideas to make our outdoor areas more inviting and cozy. More on that as items come together. Derek’s lettuce is growing like gang-busters. Both boys have been helping me clean the house each week. Ashton helps me clean the bathrooms while Zach helps with the vacuuming of the upstairs floor. Zach had tennis on Wednesday and today at the country club but not on Thursday due to not enough people available for participation. So every day is different and keeps us on our toes.
I picked up my latest round of books from the library on Wednesday. I finished “The Plot Against America” by Thursday evening. It is an alternate history set during WWII where Charles Lindbergh runs for president and defeats FDR in 1940 running on a platform to keep America out of the war. The plot follows the plight of a Jewish family living in New Jersey as they struggle against both real and perceived anti-semitism and Fascism. Some of the goings-on are scarily reminiscent of the hysteria and uncertainties of our current times. An excellent read! We also just finished watching the HBO miniseries adaptation of the novel last night. It is an excellent adaptation of the book.
I just started “The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay” this morning. It is also set in the early 1940s, but in current historical timeline following two young men, one an American and the other his cousin an escaped Jew from Prague, involved in the comic book industry in New York. So far very good!!!
And now, a view from near the tennis courts at the country club after picking up Zach today.
Sounds like some good books!
