More Science Fest!

This evening, we continued participating in the Flagstaff Festival of Science week by going to Lowell Observatory to hear a presentation about Arabian astronomy and constellations! We enjoyed learning about the Arabian night sky features; some of them familiar like the Scorpion, and others different, like the ostriches, the camel, and the bucket. Ashton received kudos for being the only kid to ask the speaker a question! It was fun looking for these “new” night sky features while walking Snickers tonight!

After the Lowell presentation, we headed to Coconino Community College (CCC) for their science night. The boys participated in different science investigation stations and completed activities in chemistry, physics, astronomy, biology, and geology. Upon successful completion of all activities, they both received very nice quality magnifying glasses to continue with their scientific explorations at home. We also each received a comet stress ball! (The CCC mascot is a comet!)

Rocket launching!

Comets are good for stress relief!

Making “elephant toothpaste”! (Hydrogen peroxide + potassium iodide + dish soap)

Looking for organisms in pond water.

Reptile are cool!

Zach helped the snake by removing some of its shedding skin. (No he did not eat it! Yes, both boys washed their hands after touching the reptiles.)

Zach holds a cute and cuddly Ebola virus!

Reassembling the human body! It is amazing how all of our parts fit together!

Super science sleuths!
