Flagstaff Celtic Festival

Today we attended the Flagstaff Celtic Festival. What an unexpectedly fun day! Zach really enjoyed attending the Celtic cooking demonstrations with tasting opportunities after each demo- the first was a stew with bacon, potatoes, spices, and figs (sooooo yummy) and the second dish was a pumpkin seed and leek soup. The secret ingredients in Celtic cooking are tarragon and dried fruits. Ashton liked the oatmeal toss in the kids area. He also met a cute little girl his age from Phoenix. They hung out together for much of the festival.

The DeLorean (from Back to the Future movie fame) was manufactured in Ireland from 1981-1983.

We adults loved listening to the music! Bagpipe parade! Ashton said he was glad they were playing outside because they were super loud. 

The Ploughboys were outstanding!!!!! Mandolin, guitar, fiddle, double bass, and drum!  Look them up! If they come back to Flag, I will definitely go again to hear them play. 

The Wicked Tinkers, made up of bagpipes, mountain horn, and highland drums, were really a unique band. However I found that an hour was way too long for that type of music. Ten minutes is about my limit. My brain is still ringing. Haha!!! 

We also enjoyed watching the Highland games competition. 

The caber toss was a favorite. Men running around and throwing around trees is quite impressive! This guy was awesome! He was one of the only ones whole actually flipped the caber.
