A Hike in Dog Canyon

We got going early today. Nice to see the sunrise! First stop- Apache Donuts for fuel! (Yum!). Then we drove an hour down the mountain to the Alamogordo area to Oliver Lee Memorial State Park to hike part of the Dog Canyon National Recreational Trail.  We hiked from an altitude of 4,500 ft up to 6,000 ft and back down. Great views of white sands, the Organ Mountains, and San Andreas Mountains across the valley.

A view of the back side of Sierra Blanca from Tularosa, NM where we stopped at Casa de Suenos for the best New Mexican food in the state. The lunch buffet did not disappoint!
