On the hunt!

We went over to the Bville Jo Allen arboretum and duck pond this afternoon to hunt for bugs for Zach's project. We were fairly productive catching a moth, 2 dragonflies, a roly-poly, another many-legged bug yet to be identified, a large grasshopper, a large wasp (to be identified) and a blue bottle fly (we think). However, the dragonflies were caught together (go Derek- bug catcher extraordinaire). The big one proceeded to eat the smaller one in the plastic bag. Yucky yet totally fascinating!!!!

Derek in his bug-catching stance!

Hunters on the march!

The dragonflies before the little one became dinner for the larger one.

A heron at the pond. Totally not disturbed by all the people making a ruckus fishing, feeding the geese, catching bugs, etc.

We have yet to catch a butterfly. We tried many times, but they are crafty. The same goes for the big bumblebees in our backyard.
