From ‘Star Wars’ to Santa Claus, Christmas parade a hit

By Chris Day cday@examiner-enterprise.com December 6, 2015 - 12:05pm
Lightsabres, storm troopers and a motorized X-wing fighter got the Bartlesville Christmas Parade crowd buzzing Saturday in downtown Bartlesville, and, by the end of the parade, everybody was yelling “Merry Christmas” and “Ho! Ho! Ho!” as Santa and his sleigh rolled down the parade route.
The “Star Wars”-themed float by Sutterfield Financial Group Inc. was selected as the overall winner. Stormtroopers, wookies and other Star Wars characters preceded the X-wing fighter. The float was a perfect teaser to “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” which is due in theaters Dec. 18.
It wasn’t the only entry to delight the crowd. A processional of emergency vehicles with lights flashing and sirens blaring lit up the night sky as did the Re/Max float which featured a real hot air balloon basket and burner, which sent flames soaring into the sky, creating a blast of warmth on a cool night.
Every parade entry delighted the children gathered along the parade route. Some liked the marching bands. Others liked the floats. All liked the candy tossed at their feet by parade participants.
Isaac Blanchard said he liked the fire from the Re/Max float, and had filled his coat pockets with candy.
Ashton and Zachary Miller also enjoyed the flames. Santa appealed to Ashton most.
Ashton said he shouted “Happy Christmas Santa” as the right jolly old elf passed by with a “Ho! Ho! Ho!” and a “Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.”
