Let's Go Fly a Bike!

After playing at the park, Cliff and I headed to the grocery store while Dixie, Derek, Zach, and Ash headed to Walmart. Their goal was to get Zach a new bike since he had outgrown his current one as well as get Ash a new scooter. Long story short, bike and scooter were successfully purchased. However the bike's bars were a bit thick for the clamps of our roof bike rack. However Derek thought the hold was good enough to get the bike home. He was wrong. The bike went airborne on highway 75 right in front of Chili's restaurant. By some stroke of extreme luck, the bike did not hit any cars. However it did bounce off the pavement causing some pretty significant damage. Derek rode/ limped the bike home with bent wheel frame and seat scuffs and all while Dixie drove the boys back to our house. Derek and Cliff did their best to try to straighten the wheel and fix the bike, but when Derek tried changing the gears, the whole gear assembly and chain broke away from the bike. Somehow Zach took this all ok. No crying, just stunned and disappointed. Derek felt soooooo bad.
Well, on Monday, we took the day off work to spend with Dixie and Cliff while the boys were in school. We went down to Tulsa for a movie and lunch. We also stopped at Dick's Sporting Goods and bought Zach another new bike. This one is much nicer and better made. Needless to say that bike was strapped to the bike rack with ratchet straps and multiple bungee cords in addition to the rack clamps and straps. There was no way it was going to take flight on the drive home this time!
Here are the boys with their new rides! They have been riding bikes and scooters every day after school. A family bike ride is planned for this coming weekend.
We will try to get the other bike repaired at some point so that Ash can have it when he is bigger. Right now he is enjoying Zach's hand me down.
