Cold. That is what the weather is currently. A dusting on the ground and more expected later today. So we are warm and cozy inside. Slow cooker chipotle shredded beef is making the house smell wonderful in anticipation of burritos for an early dinner. Zach and I just finished reading another chapter of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Nice to have a lazy day together.
Friday Derek, Zach, and I went to Tulsa to pick up our new Forester. Friends from work made us an offer that we could not refuse for our 2008 Forester, so we decided to get a new one. Here is a pic of it in the show room just before they drove it out for us (nicely waiting our inspection inside as outside it was poring rain). Zach is actually sitting in the driver's seat, but you can't see him past the window tinting. The 2014 model is taller and more roomy (and less boxy) than our 2008. Derek also chose the turbo model (in envy of my little sporty WRX-ha) so it has nice zip. We like it very much. Ash has already named it "Ice Speed". (My car is named "Lightening Strike".)
So you are probably asking why Zach was out of school and in tow for this car expedition while Ash is noticeably absent. Well, Thursday night Zach go the stomach flu big time. So even though he seemed better Friday morning, he was still quite pale and not up to par. So we chose to keep him with us. If we sent him to school, he surely via Murphy's Law, would have gotten sick again and we would have had difficulty picking him up from Tulsa. So after picking up the new car, we went to Fish Daddy's for gumbo to warm up from the dreary day.
That afternoon we relaxed at home, watching a really good documentary called Titanic:The Final Mystery. It was an excellent show documenting the research of a man who had come up with very compelling scientific evidence of why the Titanic collided with the iceberg with on 30 seconds warning, when the lookouts should have been able to see the iceberg 30 minutes out in the clear conditions that night. Basically he was able to piece together, from both weather and water temperature reports from nearby ships in the Labrador Current at the time as well as eye witness testimony, that the conditions that night caused a mirage effect on the horizon which successfully masked the iceberg as well as masked the view of the Titanic and her visual SOS distress signals to neighboring ships that could have come to her aid. To quote Spock, "Fascinating!"
That evening, Zach felt well enough a to go to soccer practice. So the boys drove up to practice while I ran the 6 miles from a our house up to the soccer fields via the pathfinder trails. Then we all went home an enjoyed warm grilled cheese with tomato soup.
Yesterday morning, I got up and ran another 6 miles with the girls. By this point, this was the 5th day in a row that I had either run or gone to spin class. My health coach also challenged me to try to do 30 min of small weight strength training followed by 30 minutes of speed drills on the treadmill twice a week in attempts to try and shed a few pounds. So I did that workout on Thursday night. I LOVE feeling muscles that I normally do not know are there -NOT. So during Saturday's run, my body was tired and NOT liking me much. However, I have no regrets about taking today off! Yesterday we also cleaned out our 2008 Forester and officially sold it to its new home. We celebrated with Chinese food (main motivation was egg drop and hot and sour soup... Hmmm I am starting to see a pattern...). Last night we watched Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade with the kids. Fun times!
