The large smoke plume was from a grass fire that started around 3 pm in George Bush Park, which is a big reservoir/park less than a mile from our house (we bike over there all the time on the bike paths) - across highway 6. Luckily the highway, plus the reservoir barrier makes a good fire break. As we are only a few blocks from highway 6, Derek biked over there and got a good vantage point of the fire fighting activity for a few pics.
We are safe. No houses have been burned in this fire. As of this blog post, it seems to be well under control. I just feel for all of the families that have been affected by the more deadly devastation in Austin and other locations around the state. We keep praying for rain- even for a small "kiss" from a hurricane or two!!!!
