On Tuesday we drove back down to Alamogordo to visit the Alameda Park Zoo - another great park geared toward little kids. We had wonderful warm weather with a light breeze. The park had quite an array of different animals, including some of our favorites like koatis (native to NM) and coyotes. We especially liked the Raven which had learned to say "hello". Ash especially liked "honking" with the geese. After fun at the zoo, we drove up to Cloudcroft, NM for Texas BBQ at the highest altitude restaurant in NM (elevation 9500 ft). Cloudcroft has a neat "old west" downtown. We drove to the ski hill to watch the skiers for a few minutes before heading back home. Oh- forgot to mention that we also stopped at the home of the largest pistachio. NM is known for its pistachios and pecans (and other nuts- proven by the fact that we used to live there), so we had to pick up a few! Another view of Sierra Blanca on the drive back up to Ruidoso.
