We then ate at our favorite New Mexican restaurant (Lucy's) for chicken tacos and sopapillas (sooooo yummy!) and walked around the downtown area doing a bit of shopping.Wood carvings of bears are popular throughout Ruidoso, but we had to take a picture of this alien- too funny!
After driving around a bit, we headed back to the cabin as dark snow clouds started to roll in.
I happened to check my email via BlackBerry and found out that a huge storm was expected all day Saturday in our driving path through NM, Texas, and Oklahoma. (Our cabin did not have wireless, so our Internet access was very infrequent. Not to mention that we were on vacation and did not even think of turning on the weather channel once in a while- hence why we were so clueless!). We made a last-minute decision to pack up early and drive back home that night to try and out run the storm. Unfortunately we only made in just past Amarillo, TX- having to stop in Conway, TX due to white out driving conditions (scary). We drove the rest of the way home on Saturday- driving conditions weren't the greatest- but were manageable. Now that we are back in BVille- we have 10 inches of snow of the ground (are we sure this is not Christmas Break????).
